Urfi Javed gained widespread attention for her bold fashion choices during her time as a participant on Bigg Boss OTT, where she notably wore a dress crafted from a garbage bag.
She has garnered a reputation for her unconventional attire, with dresses made from watches, yellow flowers, chains, and pins, among other materials, earning her the label of ‘bizarre dresses’ by Lifestyle Asia.
In December 2022, Javed achieved significant online visibility, emerging as one of the most searched individuals of Asian descent on Google, surpassing well-known Bollywood figures such as Janhvi Kapoor and Disha Patani. By January 2023, her Instagram following had exceeded four million followers.
However, not all attention has been positive. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician Chitra Wagh criticized Javed, accusing her of “public nudity on the streets of Mumbai.”
Consequently, the Mumbai Police summoned Javed for questioning at a station in Amboli following Wagh’s complaint. In response, Javed filed a counter-complaint against Wagh, alleging “threats and criminal intimidation aimed at harming her reputation in the public sphere.”
