What Types of Content Face Bans on TikTok?
In recent updates to its community guidelines, TikTok has enacted stricter regulations targeting potentially harmful content. These include restrictions on depictions of dating, drug use, sexual exploitation, violence, and hateful materials.
These limitations apply not just to minors but also to adult users, who will no longer encounter such content in their feeds or receive recommendations for it from the app’s algorithm.
The platform revised its guidelines in April and began enforcing the new rules from May 17. This move aims to mitigate conflicts arising from the visibility of dangerous content across different regions.
Additionally, under the updated guidelines, various challenge content will also be excluded from users’ feeds.
TikTok’s issued list specifies that content related to weight loss methods and exercises for heart diseases will no longer be visible or recommended.
Explicit videos and images, along with content solely focusing on displaying underwear or bikini bodies under the guise of fashion, are also prohibited.
The updated guidelines further extend to content involving gambling, drugs, alcohol, smoking, and similar topics.
Moreover, accounts of users under the age of 13 will have highly restricted content, with only suitable material for children being showcased.
