Formula One Movie Starring Brad Pitt to Hit Theaters Next June
Brad Pitt’s upcoming Formula One movie, scheduled for global release on June 25 next year and in North America two days later, was announced by F1 and Apple Original Films on Tuesday.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ which grossed $1.49 billion worldwide, and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the film has garnered cooperation from teams and drivers.
Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time F1 world champion, is also a co-producer.
Filming commenced last year and has continued during selected grand prix weekends this season. The production team has created a fictional 11th team named ‘APX GP,’ complete with a garage and pit wall stand.
In the film, Brad Pitt, aged 60, portrays a former driver staging a Formula One comeback alongside Damson Idris, who plays his rookie teammate at APX.Â
Other notable cast members include Javier Bardem, an Academy Award winner, and Kerry Condon, a nominee for Best Supporting Actress.
The movie’s production is set to conclude at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December, with Formula One aiming to capitalize on the success of the Netflix docu-series ‘Drive to Survive,’ which has significantly boosted the sport’s popularity worldwide, particularly in the crucial US market.
Lewis Hamilton, who will be moving to Ferrari at the end of the season from Mercedes, expressed optimism about the movie’s potential impact, stating, “We’ve already seen the great work and impact of the Netflix show and I think this will take it to new heights beyond that.”
