Actress Mona Singh Champions Content-Driven Cinema
Bollywood actress Mona Singh emphasized that the horror-comedy film “Munjya” highlighted the significance of strong content over mere appearances in cinema.
In an interview with an Indian media outlet, Singh stressed that movies driven by compelling narratives attract audiences to theaters, rather than those relying solely on a hero’s storyline.
“Today’s films shouldn’t just focus on aesthetics, catchy songs, or picturesque locations. They should offer substantial content and a memorable experience,” added Mona Singh.
Highlighting the trend towards content-driven cinema, the actress noted the growing popularity of genres like horror-comedy among a wider family audience.
“Fantasy worlds appeal to children, and their parents join in, making it a family viewing experience,” she said. “Since ‘Stree’, the landscape of horror-comedy has evolved significantly. It’s crucial to create unique universes.”
Reflecting on the success of ‘Munjya’, Singh remarked on how the film’s Maharashtrian folklore resonated globally, becoming a box office sensation and generating over INR 100 crores.
“It’s incredible that Maharashtrian folklore is now reaching audiences worldwide. I’m thrilled about that,” she added. “The response has been overwhelming, with people reaching out to congratulate me.”
Singh expressed optimism that filmmakers would explore diverse genres like horror and thriller to further enrich the industry’s scope.
“With recent successes, I anticipate more producers and directors reaching out to collaborate. In this industry, your current project’s success defines your standing,” she concluded.
