Google Introduces Dark Web Monitoring Feature
In today’s digital landscape, the dark web is often perceived as highly perilous, necessitating caution from users to protect their online activities due to the potential leakage of personal data.
Major tech giants have responded by introducing new features aimed at enhancing user data security. Google, a leading search engine company, has launched a safety feature called “Dark Web Reports.” Originally available to Google One subscribers, this feature now extends its reach to non-subscribers as well.
What does this feature do?
It enables users to receive detailed analyses of any leaked personal data, such as names, dates of birth, and phone numbers.
When will non-subscribers be able to access this feature?
According to an updated banner on the Google One app, the feature will be accessible to all users by “late July.”
For more information, users can click on the ‘Learn More’ button on the banner, which directs them to Google’s support page. Here, Google confirms that the feature “will become available to all users with a consumer Google Account.”
How can I utilize this feature?
Users can visit the Google search page and navigate to the “Results about you” section to ascertain if their information appears on the dark web. They can also request the removal of such information directly from there.
Additionally, users have the option to manually add details to their profiles for monitoring, review which information has been detected on the dark web, edit or delete their monitoring profiles, and choose to stop receiving reports altogether.
