The crew of “Deadpool & Wolverine” was deeply moved upon seeing Hollywood star Hugh Jackman in Wolverine’s iconic yellow and blue suit from the Marvel comics, according to executive producer Wendy Jacobson.
Recalling the emotional moment, Jacobson described how during a camera test before filming began, Jackman, known for his role in the “X-Men” series, appeared in the suit alongside Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool). This sight left many on set, including grown men, in tears.
Jackman, who had never worn such a costume during his 17-year tenure as Wolverine, reflected on his initial experience with the character’s attire. He mentioned that during the first ‘X-Men’ movie in 1999, all the actors wore black leather, which influenced his perception of the character’s look for years. However, trying on the yellow and blue suit was a transformative moment for him, prompting him to realize its significance and impact.
Ryan Reynolds, Jackman’s co-star in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” also noted the crew’s intense reaction to seeing Jackman in the iconic suit. Reynolds emphasized that the decision to incorporate the suit into the film was a straightforward one, given its importance to the character’s portrayal.
The film’s director, Shawn Levy, revealed that the idea to feature Jackman in the classic suit came from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. Feige expressed that if Jackman were to reprise his role as Wolverine post-2017’s “Logan,” it had to be in the yellow suit, underscoring its iconic status in Wolverine’s legacy.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” is slated for release on July 26 in the United States, marking the third installment in the “Deadpool” movie franchise. The storyline revolves around Wolverine coming out of retirement to assist Deadpool in a mission to save their world.
Initially hesitant to return as Wolverine after “Logan,” Jackman’s perspective changed after viewing the first “Deadpool” film, influencing his decision to revisit the character in this new context.
