Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, has provided new insights into the upcoming “Blade” movie, featuring Mahershala Ali as the half-vampire protagonist. During a promotional interview for Disney’s “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Feige addressed questions about the film’s potential R-rating, similar to the upcoming “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which marks Marvel Studios’ first venture into R-rated territory.

“I think that’s accurate,” Feige responded. “For the past two years, as we’ve been developing this movie, our priority has been ensuring we don’t rush it and instead create the right Blade film.”

Feige emphasized the significance of taking time with the project, drawing comparisons to the earlier Blade films, all of which were R-rated. “Like Deadpool, the R-rating is intrinsic to Blade’s character,” Feige added. The new “Blade” movie, announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 with Mahershala Ali attached to star, has faced numerous delays and challenges during its development. Filmmaker Bassam Tariq departed the project due to creative differences, initially slated to begin production in Fall 2022. Recently, director Yann Demange also exited the film, further complicating its progress.

Mahershala Ali’s attorney, Shelby Weiser, expressed frustration over the prolonged timeline since Ali signed on in 2019: “It’s unprecedented in my professional experience that a deal made in 2019 hasn’t yet progressed to filming.
