Upcoming Films This August
In August 2024, a variety of films are set to hit the screens, including Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, Thangalaan, Ghudchadi, and Double iSmart, among others. Following a busy July with numerous releases, August promises an exciting array of new films. Anticipated releases include Stree 2, Ulajh, Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, and Khel Khel Mein. As the month unfolds, there’s plenty to look forward to in cinema.
Ulajh Janhvi Kapoor in the role of Suhana, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer. Portraying the youngest Deputy High Commissioner, Suhana faces a challenging mission at the London embassy under intense scrutiny. Janhvi Kapoor’s performance confronts stereotypes and tackles the issue of nepotism directly.
Joining her is Gulshan Devaiah, who plays a mysterious undercover agent, adding an extra layer of suspense. The trailer hints at a complex web of secrets and betrayals, suggesting an internal leak that threatens the lives of undercover agents and plunges Suhana into a perilous fight for survival. Written by Sudhanshu Saria and Parveez Shaikh, with dialogue by Atika Chauhan, Ulajh is set to be released on August 2.
Stree 2Starring RajKummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, is one of the most eagerly awaited horror comedies of 2024. Scheduled for release in theaters on August 15, the film also features Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee.
It promises to bring back the chilling yet comedic world of the legendary Stree, who continues to haunt men. The original Stree, released in 2018, was a major success. Amar Kaushik returns to direct both installments.
Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha
After several delays, Ajay Devgn’s film Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha is finally ready for its theatrical release this month. Directed by Neeraj Pandey, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on August 2. It also features Tabu, Jimmy Sheirgill, Shantanu Maheshwari, and Saiee Manjrekar.
Khel Khel MeinStarring Akshay Kumar, is set to release in theaters on August 15. This comedy-drama, written and directed by Mudassar Aziz, also features Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, and Pragya Jaiswal.
The filmmakers describe Khel Khel Mein as a redefinition of the comedy-drama genre, promising a “rollercoaster ride of emotions that goes beyond the ordinary.” The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Vipul D Shah, Ashwin Varde, Rajesh Bahl, Shashikant Sinha, and Ajay Rai.
Haseen DilrubaTaapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey’s Netflix India drama is set to premiere on August 9. This film serves as a sequel to the 2021 hit Hasseen Dillruba and continues the story of the ill-fated lovers Rani Kashyap and Rishabh Saxena.
Directed by Jayprad Desai and written and co-produced by Kanika Dhillon, the film also features Sunny Kaushal and Jimmy Shergill. According to the official synopsis, the narrative picks up where the first film left off, following Rani and Rishu as they attempt to start anew in Agra.
Thangalaan
Starring Chiyaan Vikram, is an intriguing Tamil drama set in the 19th century Kolar gold mines. Directed by Pa Ranjith, the film is slated for a worldwide release on August 15 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. According to a press release issued on Wednesday, the film’s narrative delves into the “true history” of the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF). The cast also includes Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and Hollywood actor Daniel Caltagirone in key roles.
JackpotStarring John Cena and Awkwafina, Jackpot will premiere on Prime Video on August 15. Directed by Paul Feig and set in Los Angeles in 2030, the film centers on Katie (Awkwafina), a struggling actress who wins the lottery.
Unbeknownst to her, California law allows anyone to kill the winner and claim the prize money before sundown without facing consequences. To help Katie stay alive, an amateur lottery protection agent (John Cena) steps in, who will receive a portion of the prize if she manages to survive.
Double iSmart
Features Ram Pothineni, Sanjay Dutt, Kavya Thapar, Bani J, Getup Srinu, and Ali. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, the film is set to release in theaters on August 15 across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi languages.
As a sequel to the 2019 hit iSmart Shankar, Double iSmart is produced by Charmme Kaur and Puri Jagannadh, with cinematography by Sam K Naidu and Gianni Gianneli.
Vedaa Starring John Abraham and Sharvari, has received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification for its August 15 release.
Directed by Nikkhil Advani and written by Aseem Arrora, the film is produced by Zee Studios, Umesh Kr Bansal, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani, and John Abraham, with Minnakshi Das as co-producer. The cast also includes Abhishek Bannerjee and Tamannaah Bhatia.
