Netflix has officially renewed the Korean phenomenon ‘Squid Game’ for a third season, while the highly anticipated second season is set to debut on December 26 this year.

In a statement released early Thursday, shortly after a new teaser with an Olympic theme, Netflix confirmed that the globally acclaimed series will conclude with its third season, slated for release in 2025.

Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk expressed his excitement about the upcoming season 2 and the announcement of the final season, stating, “It’s been almost three years since the phenomenal reception of season 1, and many incredible events have transpired. I am thrilled to share the release date for season 2 and reveal that season 3 will bring the series to its conclusion.”

Hwang also teased the plot, revealing that Seong Gi-hun, who sought revenge at the end of season 1, will return to the game in season 2. He faces a formidable challenge with the Front Man, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown that will extend into the series finale in season 3.

“I am excited to see how the story will evolve and come to fruition as we approach the end,” Hwang added. “We are committed to delivering another thrilling experience and hope you’re as eager as we are for what’s next.”

Additionally, Netflix announced the renewal for a second season of ‘Squid Game’ in June 2022, with the dystopian drama bringing back key characters Gi-hun and The Front Man.
