The Punjab government has launched its “Free WiFi” initiative in Nankana Sahib after its successful rollout in Lahore and Kasur. She also announced that Safe Cities projects will soon be implemented in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala, with plans to extend the initiative to eighteen cities across Punjab. Following Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s directives, the scope of Lahore’s free Wi-Fi service has been expanded from 100 to 200 locations.
Free Wi-Fi is now available in areas including Manga Mandi, Multan Road, Bund Road, Chuhng, Shahpur Kanjran, Sundar, Valencia, Maraka, and other regions. According to an official statement, the free emergency Wi-Fi service is being offered to citizens as part of the ‘Digital Punjab’ initiative.
In emergencies, this service allows users to contact police, reach family members, and utilize the Women Safety App, Punjab Police App, and WhatsApp. However, the service does not support access to entertainment apps such as Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok. Each free Wi-Fi device in Lahore provides coverage up to 300 feet from its respective point.
