‘Laapataa Ladies’ To Be Screened At Supreme Court

Filmmaker Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, produced by her ex-husband and Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, is set to be screened at the Supreme Court of India. According to Indian media reports, Rao’s critically acclaimed sophomore film will be showcased at the Supreme Court on Friday, August 9.

The special screening is organized by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud to promote gender equality awareness among the judiciary and its staff. The event will be attended by all Supreme Court judges, their spouses, and registry members. Following the screening, Rao and Khan will engage with the audience to discuss the film’s themes.

“During the activities commemorating the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Supreme Court of India, the film Laapataa Ladies, which addresses gender equality, will be screened on Friday, August 9, 2024, in the Auditorium, C-Block, Administrative Building Complex,” states the official notice.

Rao’s comedy-drama Laapataa Ladies, featuring Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, and Ravi Kishan, first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September of the previous year.The film received positive reviews from critics and audiences upon its theatrical release on March 1 but garnered only INR 25 crores throughout its Box Office run. Laapataa Ladies debuted on Netflix on April 26.
