Why SRK Is Out and Ranveer Singh Is In ‘Don 3′
After facing considerable criticism and backlash from fans, actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has finally explained why Ranveer Singh was cast in place of Shah Rukh Khan for the upcoming film ‘Don 3’.
In a recent podcast interview, Farhan Akhtar, who directed both previous films in the franchise with Shah Rukh Khan as ‘Don’, revealed the reasoning behind casting Ranveer Singh for the third installment. He explained that the new script required a different kind of actor.
“The direction we’re taking with this script calls for a next-generation actor,” Akhtar said. “Ranveer Singh’s energetic and mischievous nature fits what we need for this role, and I believe his potential in this type of performance is still largely untapped.”
He continued, “Ranveer’s past roles have been very external and loud, reflecting his exuberant personality. ‘Don’ demands a different approach—one that requires a subtle intensity, which I think will be a new and exciting challenge for him.”
Akhtar also hinted at a fresh portrayal of action and dialogue for Singh, noting that it will be distinct from his previous roles, adding an interesting new dimension to his performance.
Excel Entertainment, led by Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, acquired the rights to remake the 1978 Amitabh Bachchan film ‘Don’ and rebooted the franchise in 2006 with ‘Don: The Chase Begins Again’ featuring SRK in the lead. Khan returned for the sequel, ‘Don: The King is Back’ in 2011.
‘Don 3’ is set for a Christmas 2025 release and will begin filming in January next year
