Director Anurag Kashyap has addressed speculation about a potential third installment of the Gangs of Wasseypur series, firmly rejecting the idea.

Despite the cult status of the gangster action crime films, which star Manoj Bajpayee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and have garnered a significant fan following, Kashyap has stated he is not interested in extending the franchise.

In response to rumors about working on Gangs of Wasseypur 3, Kashyap emphasized his desire to explore new stories rather than revisiting the Wasseypur universe. “No, it won’t come. I don’t want to create a Wasseypur universe.

Businessmen have a different way of thinking. Everything is being turned into a universe. I am not chasing that. Instead, I want to make a different variety of films and tell different stories,” he said.

Kashyap further explained, “I will make Wasseypur 3 when I get sick, in need of money, and would not see any way out. It will be made when I have no other way to work, and then I will announce Wasseypur 3 and make money for my treatment.”

The original Gangs of Wasseypur, released in 2012, was both produced and directed by Kashyap. The film, along with its sequel released in the same year, became a significant box-office success. The series portrays the saga of a coal mafia family in the town of Wasseypur.

Notably, Gangs of Wasseypur was instrumental in the career beginnings of actor Vicky Kaushal, who worked as an assistant director on the project, and actress Huma Qureshi, who made her debut in Bollywood with this film.
