Amazon has announced that it will stream the first season of The Rings of Power for free on select devices to boost viewership ahead of its second season.
From August 15 to August 28, the eight-episode first season will be available on Samsung TV Plus, a free streaming service pre-installed on Samsung TVs and Galaxy devices, according to Variety.
Originally aired from September to October 2022, the first season will be accessible during this period. The second season of The Rings of Power is set to premiere on August 29 on Amazon Prime Video.
This move by Amazon is seen as a strategy to attract more viewers to the series, which is based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels.
It’s important to note that Samsung TV Plus will provide access to the show for 300 million users across the US, Canada, Brazil, the UK, and Germany.
While the first season of The Rings of Power faced competition from HBO’s House of the Dragon in 2022, the second season will not encounter such rivalry, as House of the Dragon will have concluded its second season shortly before.
In response to the announcement of free streaming on Samsung TV Plus, Senior Vice President and General Manager Salek Brodsky highlighted that around 300 million Samsung TV and Galaxy device owners will have the chance to discover or catch up on the series.
t’s worth noting that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will debut with a two-episode premiere on August 29. The remaining six episodes will be released weekly on Fridays, with the season finale scheduled for October 14.
This fantasy series is based on the appendices of J.R.R. Tolkien’s original The Lord of the Rings novels and is set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings novels and films.
While the first season was titled Rings of Power, it did not feature any of the franchise’s iconic rings. However, these rings are set to make their appearance at the start of the second season.
