Mark Wahlberg Discusses Shooter Sequel After Success
Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg recently addressed the speculation about a potential sequel to Shooter, in which he stars as a retired US Marine sniper. Released in 2007, the film has seen a resurgence in popularity and is now among the top 10 films on the Paramount+ streaming platform.
During an interview with a US media outlet promoting his upcoming film The Union, Wahlberg was asked about the possibility of reprising his role as Bob Lee Swagger. He suggested that a sequel might be feasible given the recent developments at Paramount, though he did not confirm or deny any plans for a follow-up.
Additionally, Wahlberg expressed interest in collaborating again with director Antoine Fuqua and co-star Michael Peña.
Mark Wahlberg noted, “I think my good friends over at Skydance just took over Paramount, so a sequel is a possibility. They have a solid library, including not just Shooter, but also The Italian Job, Four Brothers, and The Fighter,” he said. “There are other projects in their library that could be interesting to revisit or revamp, but Shooter in particular.”
Wahlberg also mentioned that he continues to be approached about Shooter and his role as the retired US Marine. “Movies don’t always turn out as expected, but if I, Antoine Fuqua, and potentially Michael Peña were involved, that would be very cool,” he added. It’s worth noting that a Shooter TV series aired from 2016 to 2018, starring Ryan Phillippe as Bob Lee Swagger, but it did not achieve the same level of success as the film.
