Pakistani, Indian Celebrities Demand Action Against Harassment

The escalating lawlessness in Pakistan has profoundly unsettled its citizens, who now live in constant fear of harassment, violence, looting, or kidnapping, knowing that criminals frequently evade justice.

While harassment has long been a widespread issue, incidents of rape and murder are now also increasing. It has become commonplace for perpetrators to evade accountability by paying substantial bribes in court.

A few days ago, a girl in an Abaya/Hijab was harassed by a man on a motorbike, and his terrible act was also witnessed by his child. Soon after that, a 5-year-old girl was raped at Ganga Ram Hospital in Lahore. A young couple was also harassed in a crowd in Pakistan. The most heinous incident, however, was the killing of five people when a woman named Natasha rammed her car into five people while she was drunk.

Pakistani celebrities are deeply concerned about the ongoing situation where women are unsafe in their own country. They argue that men frequently blame women’s attire as a justification for harassment, but now even those in abayas are being targeted in public. Celebrities are calling for strict punishment for those who harass women in parks, streets, workplaces, and recreational areas. Many believe that severe penalties are necessary to address the behavior of these perpetrators.

The situation in India mirrors that of Pakistan, with harassment being a widespread issue. However, the recent case involving young Dr. Moumita Debnath has particularly unsettled people and heightened concerns about women’s safety in the country.

Indian actor John Abraham has remarked that neither women nor animals are safe in India. Prominent figures such as Alia Bhatt, Kriti Sanon, Ayushmann Khurrana, Hrithik Roshan, Sohana Khan, and others are expressing their grief and solidarity over the tragic case of Dr. Moumita Debnath.
