Tim Burton’s eagerly awaited sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, is set to make a significant splash at the box office, with early projections suggesting it could become this year’s third highest-grossing film for an opening weekend. According to Global Market Research Company NRG, the horror comedy is now anticipated to earn $105 million domestically in its debut, a notable increase from earlier estimates of $65 million to $75 million.

This surge in projected earnings comes on the heels of an enthusiastic reception at the Venice Film Festival, where the film received glowing reviews. The BBC praised the sequel, noting it is “a big-budget comedy which is actually funny,” a rare feat in today’s cinema landscape.

Set to hit theaters on September 6, 2024, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice marks the return of Tim Burton to the director’s chair, with Michael Keaton reprising his iconic role as the mischievous ghost. Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara also return to their beloved roles as Lydia and Delia Deetz, respectively, while Jenna Ortega joins the cast as Lydia’s daughter.

The original Beetlejuice, released in 1988, was a box office success, earning $74 million domestically against a $15 million budget. It grossed over $8 million in its opening weekend. The sequel’s impressive projected numbers would place it just behind Inside Out 2, which earned over $150 million in its debut, and surpass Deadpool and Wolverine, which hold the record with over $200 million in opening weekend grosses.

As Beetlejuice Beetlejuice prepares for its release, it is poised to capture significant audience attention and potentially reshape the box office landscape for the year.
