‘Heeramandi’ Bags Two Busan Nominations

Bollywood’s celebrated director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut OTT series, ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,’ has earned two nominations at the esteemed Busan International Film Festival 2024.

According to Indian media reports, Netflix India’s innovative series, directed by the renowned filmmaker, is nominated for ‘Best OTT Original’ and ‘Best Original Song’ for ‘Sakal Ban,’ which draws inspiration from a poem by Amir Khusrau.

In response to the nomination, Bhansali said, “It’s an honor to be recognized at the Asia Contents Awards. I am grateful to the jury and the audience for this remarkable acknowledgment.”

The Asia Contents Awards & G.OTT Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, October 6, at the BIFF Theater in Busan Cinema Center, South Korea.

‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,’ Bhansali’s passion project exploring the lives of courtesans in Lahore’s red-light district during pre-independent India, premiered earlier this year on Netflix.

The eight-episode season, featuring Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, Aditi Rao Hydari, Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, and Sanjeeda Sheikh in lead roles, alongside Farida Jalal, Fardeen Khan, Shekhar, Adhyayan Suman, and Taha Shah, received mixed reviews from both viewers and critics.

The show has been renewed for a second season on the streaming platform.
