Alina Abbas Shah Discusses Backlash After Noor Jahan
Alina Abbas Shah has recently become a sensation on television, earning widespread acclaim for her role as Safina in the hit drama Noor Jahan. During a podcast with her sister, Fatema Abbas Shah, she discussed her rising success, the body shaming she has encountered, and her perspective on her career.
Alina revealed that she has faced criticism for her height since childhood, being the tallest in her class. Standing at 6 feet tall, she has always embraced her stature despite the negative comments. Now 32, she reflected on starting her acting career at 29 and expressed pride in her accomplishments, dismissing concerns about age shaming.
She also addressed the body shaming she experienced after Noor Jahan, where some critics pointed out that she appeared the same age as Saba Hameed or older than Hunaid, particularly noting her weight gain. This criticism initially depressed her, but she later used it as motivation to get back on track.
Alina also touched on the concept of “ugly privilege,” suggesting that in today’s world, being less conventionally attractive can sometimes shield one from harassment and make one feel safer.
