Islamabad: Bollywood icon Aamir Khan recently revealed that he had contemplated retiring from films, a decision he shared with his family.

However, his children, Ira and Junaid, persuaded him to rethink his choice. With a career spanning over 35 years, Aamir Khan, known for both his acting and directing, opened up about this pivotal moment in a joint interview with his ex-wife Kiran Rao.

Khan explained that he made the decision to quit just before filming Laal Singh Chaddha. Reflecting on his personal journey, he shared, “I realized that I had spent most of my adult life, from the age of 18 onward, completely immersed in cinema.

As a result, I hadn’t been present enough for my relationships with my kids, siblings, and other family members.” He continued, “Whether it was with Kiran or Reena during our marriages, I felt I hadn’t been there for them enough.

I felt a lot of guilt and didn’t feel good about it. After making so many films in 35 years, I thought it was time to focus on my family.”

Aamir recalled the moment he broke the news to his family. “I sat them down and told them I wanted to quit films and spend more time with all of you.

This wasn’t coming from any disappointment with cinema itself,” he said. His children, Junaid and Ira, urged him not to quit, with Junaid suggesting, “Why go from one extreme to the other? There’s a middle ground where you can balance both.”

Their advice led Aamir to reconsider his decision. “So, no one knew I had actually quit; it was just part of my personal journey,” he added.

On the professional front, Aamir Khan is set to star in the upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, which he also produced. The movie, a spiritual sequel to his 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par, will co-star Genelia Deshmukh and Darsheel Safary, and is slated for release on December 25.
