Bollywood: Actress Chitrangada Singh, celebrated for her captivating presence in Bollywood, faced a troubling ordeal while shooting for “Babumoshai Bandookbaaz.” While not a direct instance of casting couch, she felt objectified due to director Kushan Nandy’s indirect demands, particularly in intimate scenes.
Singh accuses Nandy of resorting to vulgar language during disagreements and pressuring her to reshoot an intimate scene and prolong a kissing sequence with co-star Nawazuddin Siddiqui. “After filming the [intimate] shot, Kushan expressed dissatisfaction and insisted I lie on top of Nawaz. It’s crucial to note that I was wearing a petticoat for that scene,” Singh reveals.
The situation worsened when Nandy demanded a lengthier kiss: “We had previously shot a montage where Kushan desired a similar action. Nawaz and I had also shared a kiss in that montage, and now Kushan insisted on a 7-second kiss in the intimate scene.”
Following these incidents, Chitrangada opted to exit the film. Despite initially reconsidering after discussing the matter with Nawaz, Nandy did not reach out to invite her back to the project.
