Sexual activity is set to make a return at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with 300,000 condoms planned to be distributed to the 14,250 athletes staying in the Olympic Village.

This marks a departure from the COVID-19 restrictions imposed during the Tokyo Games in 2020, where athletes were advised to abstain from intimate relationships to prevent the spread of the virus.

The tradition of providing condoms at the Olympics dates back several years, with 8,500 condoms distributed during the 1988 Seoul Olympics to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS. The number of condoms provided has increased over time, with 70,000 condoms distributed during the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and 450,000 at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Despite the ban on close contact at the Tokyo Games, 150,000 condoms were still provided, with organizers stating they were intended for athletes to take home to raise awareness rather than for use in the Olympic Village.

For the Paris 2024 Olympics, organizers are encouraging athletes to interact with each other, aiming to create a convivial atmosphere in the Olympic Village. French specialties will be served alongside a variety of world foods to cater to athletes’ nutritional needs and performance requirements.

While champagne won’t be available in the Olympic Village, athletes will have access to it in Paris itself. This move signifies a return to a more relaxed atmosphere at the Olympics, emphasizing camaraderie and comfort for the athletes.
