“Stree 2,” featuring Bollywood stars Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has emerged as the biggest opener of 2024, amassing a total of INR 58 crore in India. On its official release day, August 15 India’s Independence Day the sequel earned INR 46 crore and surpassed the original film’s record for advance bookings, according to an Indian media outlet.
The sequel to the 2018 film “Stree” continues the tale of Chanderi town, which is haunted by the menacing Sarkata Bhoot.The townspeople seek the help of Stree, resulting in a blend of humor and horror as they face supernatural threats.In “Stree 2,” Bollywood stars Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor return to their roles from the original film to team up against the formidable supernatural forces.
Additionally, Varun Dhawan as Bhediya and Akshay Kumar make surprise cameo appearances in this horror-comedy.The movie centers around a headless ghost that haunts a town in Uttarakhand.
The legend of the Sarkata Bhoot originated in Lansdowne, Uttarakhand. Passed down through generations, the tale describes a headless ghost believed to ride through the town on a horse every night. Locals think Sarkata Bhoot not only guards the area but also contributes to the low crime rate.
It is widely believed that Sarkata Bhoot is the spirit of a British soldier, WH Wardell, who was appointed Commanding Officer of Lansdowne Cantt in 1983. Although he died fighting German forces in France during World War I, the local lore suggests his soul lingers in the cantonment area where he was stationed before his death.
In contrast, the original “Stree” narrates the story of a vengeful female spirit who targets men, leaving only their clothes behind.The story is inspired by the eerie folklore of Nale Ba, which began in Bangalore in the 1990s.
According to the legend, a witch wandered the streets at night, targeting unsuspecting men.She was said to have the ability to mimic the voices of their mother, wife, or sister to entice them into opening their doors.Men who opened their doors to the witch would meet a grim fate within 24 hours, leaving behind only their clothes.
