The makers of “Call Me Bae,” featuring Bollywood actress Ananya Panday, are facing allegations of imitating popular Hollywood shows such as “2 Broke Girls” and “Schitt’s Creek.”

On Tuesday, Prime Video India released the trailer for “Call Me Bae,” marking Panday’s debut in the series. The show portrays Bae, an heiress whose life takes a dramatic turn after being disowned by her family.

The trailer begins by showcasing Bae Chowdhary’s lavish lifestyle in New Delhi, highlighting her opulent possessions: “Seven luxury cars, a chopper, and a fairytale wedding,” Bae narrates.

After being cut off by her family, Bae relocates to Mumbai, where she must navigate a drastically different life. Viewers on Reddit and Instagram have noted similarities to Hollywood shows, with some suggesting that “Call Me Bae” resembles a “desi” version of “2 Broke Girls” and “Schitt’s Creek.”

Comments included comparisons such as, “It looks very much like a cheaper version of 2 Broke Girls and Emily in Paris,” and “I immediately thought of 2 Broke Girls. Her character seems inspired by that show.” Another user remarked, “It feels like watching 2 Broke Girls from Caroline’s perspective.”

Others noted the show’s blend of influences, with one commentator describing it as “Emily in Paris meets 2 Broke Girls meets Schitt’s Creek.”

Directed by Collin D’cunha, “Call Me Bae” also features Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Lisa Mishra, and Mini Mathur.

Created by Ishita Moitra and written by Moitra, Samina Motlekar, and Rohit Nair, the series will debut on Amazon Prime Video on September 6.
